Can I install solar just for my own unit?

In most strata buildings, no.

Because the roof is common property, no individual owner can install on it without the approval of the Owners Corporation. Exclusive use of a roof area can sometimes be granted through a by-law, though that’s more common in smaller townhouse-style developments than in larger apartment buildings.
