What are power optimisers and how do they help with shading?

Power optimisers attach to individual panels and let each one maximise its own output independently of the others, which eliminates the string bottleneck.

They feed into a central string inverter, so system costs stay lower than a fully microinverter-based approach. For most residential shading situations they recover the majority of the lost generation, at a cost that makes sense across the life of the system.
