What is a ground-mounted solar system and when does it make sense?

A ground-mounted system sits on a frame on your property rather than on your roof.

Because you aren’t working around an existing roof, it can be positioned for optimal north-facing output at the right tilt angle, and it typically produces 10 to 25 percent more energy than an equivalent roof-mounted system. It suits rural properties, or homes where the roof isn’t suitable because of orientation, shading or structural issues.
