Why does shade on one panel affect the whole system?
Why does shade on one panel affect the whole system?
Because of how the panels are wired together. In a standard string-wired array, partial shading on a single cell can reduce output across the whole string, not just the panel that’s in shade.
That’s why a shading analysis during system design is essential. Where shading is unavoidable, microinverters or DC power optimisers let each panel operate independently, and they can recover a significant portion of the lost generation.
